Technology
A tricky topic to address, because ultimately it is a matter of taste and personal preference. We based our choices on a number of factors but we began with what we wanted to achieve in terms of memories, blogs and communication. Wi-fi is available but is of variable reliability in S.E. Asia

What we're bringing: |
A camera is always going to be the travellers first bit of kit and we are no different. We have been using a Nikon coolpix on our European jaunts. We find it excellent but limited in terms of clarity, particularly at a distance, in certain light and when using the zoom function. That said it is very handy for a quick snap or jazzy selfie! For a non-photo-pro it's too good to leave behind. It takes AA batteries which we really like as we can pick them up or bring a supply anywhere. We will be bringing this camera on this trip for still shots.
Herself has gone more up-market, from using her iPhone camera on the last trip to now using a DSLR Canon EOS M (great Birthday present). The pixel quality and clarity is excellent. The camera is larger, with a detachable lens and detachable flash. It comes everywhere with us and produces excellent scenic shots. As soon as she bought it, she signed up to an online photography course which she has been diligently completing in her not so spare time! We wanted to be able to share video blogs on our site to provide more interesting features and bring you as close to our experiences as possible. After much research, we purchased the Panasonic HX-WA03 recorder. It is a cool, single grip style recorder, very easy to shoot things close up in tight spaces e.g. accommodation, interactions, planes, video diaries. It is also waterproof up to 5 metres which is a feature we really like as we don;t like to worry about it in the rain or around bottles of water (he's also clumsy as f@#k). It has a rechargeable battery so will be bringing a USB charger and you really need to buy a tripod as it doesn't stand on its own. |

Computer |
What we're bringing: |
We both wanted some form of computer on the road. Computers of course cover everything from communication, to itineraries, visa applications, CVs and blogging. It was a no brainer that we needed something but we have gone very different ways on this front. We opted to bring his ipad - It ticks all the boxes in terms of size, battery life and capabilities. She bought a bluetooth keyboard and hardcase and this has set us up completely for all his computer needs. Due to her work commitments, she is bringing a proper laptop. She was in need of a new laptop anyway as her current one took the inevitable beating during her Ph.D. She purchased an Acer E13 ultrabook which is increadibly lightweight and slim with all necessary features.
